The Power of Introverts

Susan Cain’s book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking is a fascinating look at the way introverts interact within society. I’ve enjoyed reading it (a review will be up before the end of the year) and recently clicked a link on the Randomhouse twitter page to a new youtube series based on the book.

Here’s the first video:

If you can’t see the video embedded, visit the youtube page directly.

I’ve already subscribed to the channel so I can watch the next video the second it comes out.

Particularly interesting to me is the amount of introverts out there. It certainly doesn’t seem like it!

By the way, if you like the video, you’ll love the book.

Sadly unable to access the video – snow seems to be playing havoc with our internet single – I’ll try again later.

I’m so glad you shared this, Melanie!

I’ve been wanting to read this book, but of course I’m terrible about reading more than a handful of non-fiction books every year. This video was excellent, and I too subscribed so that I can see future videos. As a raging introvert who took years to come out of the closet, these honestly make me feel better. I have often described myself as shy, though I don’t think I really am, I’m just quiet, and this video helped me feel better about that distinction. =)

If you do read it, I’d love to hear what you think of it.

It’s nice to understand that there is a difference between shy and quiet, isn’t there? So many people just lump the two together.

It’s hard to find other introverts because when we’re out and about in the world, we’re tapping into our more extroverted tendencies. Especially since I turned 40 (when I magically developed some social skills), I have fooled a lot of people into thinking that I’m an extrovert. It’s such a pleasure, though, when I realize that I’ve managed to encounter another of the introverted tribe.

I think this sounds fascinating. There are tons of introverts out there – they just don’t draw a lot of attention to themselves.

I saw this won a Goodreads award for best non-fiction and look forward to reading it. I consider myself an introvert so let’s hope that’s a good thing!

Well, maybe it doesn’t seem like there are so many introverts because the extroverts take all the attention away from us – that whole vocal minority thing? Or else we are too quiet to speak up for ourselves? Quiet has been getting such rave reviews. As a major introvert, it is one I really should add to my wish list!

Thanks so much for sharing this – I’m going to watch it and show it to my bf, he’s convinced I’m not an introvert because I can be really chatty but I need down/alone time, too!
