Movie Date: The Raven Starring John Cusack
No one imagined more ways to die than Edgar Allan Poe – and no one else can stop a madman from bringing every one of them to life.
The Raven is out in theaters today, and I want to see it! Granted, it’ll probably be a week or two before I properly gird my squeamish stomach for its “bloody violence and grisly images” though.
Also appearing is Brendan Coyle, of Downton Abbey fame, who has been another favorite of mine since his days as Nicholas Higgins in North and South. From what I gather, it’s a small role, but still.
Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite poets; in fact, I can still remember my father reading The Raven to me as a child.
But if I jump into some poor, unsuspecting soul’s lap because I’m getting freaked out, I only hope he’ll forgive me.
The Vow: In Real Life
The Vow is a recently released movie starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams.
The story behind the movie actually happened in the mid 90s, and the movie was optioned a few years later. It spent over ten years in production. Patience is indeed a virtue.
Here’s a quick interview of the real life couple I found on youtube:

Devout Christians, Kim and Krickitt Carpenter were wed after a long and careful courting process involving prayer and church. Their attraction to one another as well as their relationship was built around their faith, and ultimately it was their love of God that saved their marriage.
Whoa. That doesn’t sound like the movie I went to see. Hollywood definitely had their way with this one.
Cute movie, though. And a cute couple.
One for the Money starring Katherine Heigl

One for the Money stars Katherine Heigl, Jason O’Mara, and Debbie Reynolds. It’ll be released on January 27th.
Stephanie Plum goes from unemployed lingerie buyer to bounty hunter in this action comedy. Her first potential bounty is the breaker of her heart.
The fascinating thing about this novel is that it was orginally published in 1994. It was optioned shortly after by TriStar pictures and was in pre-production for fifteen years. Like Maggie Stiefvater said in a blog post, books-to-movies take a while. This is a perfect example.
This movie is based on a book by the same name, written by Janet Evanovich. It’s part of a series that has 18 novels to date. Eighteen. If this movie is a hit, can you imagine 18 consecutive films? I wouldn’t be surprised if it became a TV series, or if they mashed books together like what happened to The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2 and Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Headed to the movies is a new sporadic feature on Melanie’s Musings, like a movie focused Waiting on Wednesday.
