Back In The Swing

Finals! Piano recitals! Weddings! Oh my!

My May has been insane, but June seems to be promising a bit of a slow down, and I’m more than ready to ease back into blogging. Over the next few weeks, you can expect at least a post a week. Ease.

Lately, I’ve been doing a bit of web browsing, and I came across some awesome news…

THE FOURTH BOOK OF THE INHERITANCE CYCLE HAS A RELEASE DATE!

Um. I’m just a bit excited. To be honest, I’ve kind of forgotten a lot of the third book because it’s been such a freakin’ long time. But I can think of worse things than having to reread Brisingr. ;)

I also have a new favorite quote to add to my Favorite Quotes list. (Inventive title, huh?) It is:

I’m inquisitive. Nosy. – The Mentalist

Simple, to the point, and describes me to a T.

And finally:

David Cook’s latest music video. The video’s kind of morbid if you think about it for longer than five seconds, but the song rocks.

Have a great week, peeps!

Compulsion Interview and Giveaway

Courtesy of the Teen Book Scene, I have an interview with Mera, the coolest person Compulsion by Heidi Ayarbe has. Check out the bottom of the post for giveaway details. ;)

What’s your favorite memory of Luc, Jake, and yourself hanging out?
You mean back when they had personalities? Probably when we would hang out at Luc’s house. We had this cool fort in the back yard, like way cool. Luc was pretty into music, and I’d bring my violin. We’d put on talent shows. They’d deny it because somehow, somewhere along the way, they decided that I wasn’t cool.

Clears throat.

Well, maybe things would be different if my brothers weren’t total asshats.

Favorite piece of classical music?

Paganini’s Caprices and Beethoven’s Concerto #1. Those are mad insane to play – total technique plus heart – finger-cramping callous-making songs. Like the pinnacle of every violin player’s list. If I can play those, then I can play anything.

Do you listen to any modern day pop music?

Anybody who knows anything about music listens to The Decemberists, Ryan Adams, Gavin McGraw – like they really feel the music. They do it for the music, not the trends. I mean, they’re for real. It’s hard to find real anymore. Everything’s wrapped up in electro-crap packages with glitter and fake boobs.

How dedicated are you to your lacto-no-ovo diet?

Okay, listen bacon-breath. Your pores are oozing death. Your lunch was the result of institutionalized genocide. Like how is that okay? And let’s not even talk about deforestation. You know that cattle ranching is the biggest cause of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon? I mean, thanks to your cheeseburger I won’t be able to breathe without oxygen masks.

So if we all don’t need to buy oxygen in ten years, you can thank me because people with a conscience – people like me – are pretty much the only hope for the planet.

What’s your best get-to-sleep tip?

Shrugs
. You could start by not eating meat. Guilt is a major cause of insomnia.
Okay. I don’t know. I play my violin. I watch TV. I’m a big fan of Discovery Home and Health, especially watching those travel food shows which totally gross me out, but I’m perversely fascinated with them. I don’t know. Not sleeping isn’t so bad, either. It’s just the thinking. Thinking can kind of suck sometimes.

Dude, total truth about the guilt thing. Now, onto the giveaway! Up for grabs, courtesy of the author herself, are two pairs of running socks, a Luna bar, and swag. Pretty sweet, huh?

When Jennifer Murgia isn’t writing…

Courtesy of the Teen Book Scene, I’m lucky enough to be hosting Jennifer Murgia as she makes her way around the blogosphere on her tour for her latest release, Leminiscate. Here she is, talking about what she does in her spare time:

When I’m not writing . . .

When am I NOT writing?

For years all I wanted was to be a writer. It was a dream of mine since I was a little girl and something that for a long time seemed unattainable. Why? Well, life happens. You grow up. You get a job. You get married and buy a house. Houses need a lot of work. Then you have children. They need even more attention than the house you just bought. So as life moved quickly around me my dreams of becoming a writer stayed a dream.

Until a few years ago.

I suddenly made the time. Ideas bombarded me. Flooded me. And soon I found I was writing nonstop.

Last year that dream of mine came true. My book Angel Star was published! I jumped up and down and screamed and squeezed my husband and kids so hard they had to look at me with one eye open. The whirlwind had officially begun and amidst the interviews and promoting and signings came another book,
Lemniscate – which was followed by more excitement -I tried to keep it toned down the second time around, really.

So what do I do when I’m not writing? I’m dreaming of other books and sideways glances from my family. Sometimes my days are filled with the necessary . . . laundry, cooking, yeah . . . I need to do those too. And
some days I TRY to ignore my computer and force myself to get out of the house or sit and read someone else’s book because suddenly my life is blissfully busy. I dream of other things now. Like vacations and walks.

But the day always comes to an end with me sitting at my laptop and my children falling asleep to the sound of my fingers typing away and maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to take the day off.

Thanks so much, Jennifer!
