The Dark Divine E-book
In case you haven’t heard, The Dark Divine by Bree Despain e-book is currently $2.99! This deal will last until November 22nd.
I’m currently working on a review for TDD, and all I’m going to say is that I really enjoyed it.
When I hopped on Amazon, I saw that they had the e-book of The Dark Divine for only $2.39. Talk about a steal!
The Ivy by Lauren Kunze with Rina Onur
Callie from California is off to her first year at Harvard. She’ll soon find out that little studying will actually be involved; instead, she’ll be way to busy trying to manage her social and love life before they spin completely out of control.
The thing that surprised me most about The Ivy was how little studying actually happened. For Ivy League, these kids sure had a lot of spare time on their hands.
With four (four!) different guys vying for her attention, in some way or another, even if it’s by being a total moron (I’m looking at you, Gregory), Callie’s love life is never boring. However, I didn’t get the feeling that I got to know all of the guys, especially Matt. That saddened me, since in the book jacket it says that Matt is the guy Callie should really love. He seemed nice but no nicer than Clint, and I still haven’t figured out what made him superior. And I haven’t even mentioned her initial boyfriend, Evan!
The writing flowed well for the most part, but there were a couple times that felt really odd to me. Here’s an example from page 160:
No matter where she went at Harvard, no matter her accomplishments or achievements, she would never be like Mimi or Vanessa: born into an Old Boys’ network in this stupid, exclusive, impossible world that everyone seemed to want to be a part of including, including, if she was honest with herself, well… me.
See that last part? That threw me off.
The ending of this book didn’t satisfy me. Although I could see what was inevitably coming, I didn’t feel my usual pride over having guessed the ending. Instead, my only thought was wondering what Callie could possibly do. I think I’ll be reading the next book in this series, simply to find out that not-so-simple fact.
The Ivy felt like Gossip Girls to me. Backstabbing, social climbing, and drunk hook-ups all make their appearance. It is never dull.
This book was reviewed as part of a Traveling to Teens tour.
